Volunteer Dance Buddies bringing joy at CCDC!
At the Dance Ability Movement, our volunteers are a pillar of all that we do. DAM volunteers connect with and encourage dancers, forming meaningful relationships that help dancers experience the joy of movement. To celebrate National Volunteer Week in Canada and the United Nations’ International Volunteer Year 2026, we are happy to share the experiences of just a few of our volunteers. It is because of their effort, commitment, and joy that the spark within the DAM community remains ignited.
Whether they have just joined us in 2026, or been here for over a decade, our volunteers bring people together and are a key part of our DAM Community. They bring kindness, friendship, and mentorship to each dancer, fostering a sense of belonging. This is reflected in the fun, joy, and positive experiences volunteers take away from interacting with dancers.
“I just absolutely love the energy and excitement that the dancers bring to the dance class every week and the connections that get made between the dancers and volunteers.” – Kelly
“To gain more experience and it’s fun!” – Joey
Classes at DAM aren’t just about dance – they’re about community, self-expression, and joy. Volunteer Dance Buddies help create this special environment, connecting with dancers, other volunteers, and the wider DAM community to foster inclusion through dance.
“My favourite part about being involved with this community is the connection, seeing the dancer’s growth and watching the dancers walk away with smiles on their faces. Dance is a powerful and uplifting tool, being able to be a part of something that motivates and uplifts a dancer’s spirits while bringing them closer to the community is amazing.” – Mattie
“The students are so kind, always brightens my day!!!!!!!” – Kaitlyn
Throughout the years, many volunteers have gone on to pursue interests, passions, and future career paths that were fostered during their time with DAM. From interests in dance, to occupational therapy, to early childhood education, and everything in between, each DAM volunteer brings something special to our community.
“After dancing with the children there, I can confidently say that I really like kids! I think I would like to work in an early childhood care center as an OTA in my future career.” – Alice
“I plan on pursuing a career in occupational therapy or physiotherapy and volunteering with DAM has given me insight into what a career in this field might look like.” – Viviana
As we mark this celebratory National Volunteer Week, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all DAM volunteers, past, present, and future. You shape our community, create joy, and help bring the power of movement to so many.
